We’re pleased to announce the publication of a new paper in the Journal of eScience Librarianship: Testing Our Assumptions: Preliminary Results from the Data Curation Network!
In the paper we describe the assumptions our team held prior to launching the Data Curation Network, as described in our 2017 planning phase report “A Cross-Institutional Staffing Model for Curating Research Data.” We test these assumptions using our first year experiences of curating 74 datasets across a network of data curators based at distributed partner data repositories. We also discovered some “unwritten” assumptions that weren’t explicitly included in the model report but in fact have a major impact on our work.
This paper is relevant to those who seek lessons learned from putting data curation services into practice and those involved in collaborative projects.
