DCN Membership Tiers (updated 02/2022)

Sustainer Institution

This is the highest level of participation. Sustainer institutions contribute curator staff to the Network and have full participation in governance. 

Benefits of the Sustainer Tier

  • Radical interdependence: Participate in shared curation model (up to 200 hours)
  • Representation in DCN Governance
  • Travel support ($2k) to annual All Hands Meeting (AHM)
  • Logo on website

Ambassador

Ambassadors invite DCN instructors to teach our 2-day in-person CURATED workshop for local/regional staff.

  • Host a DCN workshop
  • DCN community of practice
  • Invited to present virtually at AHM
  • Logo on website

DCN “Sustainer” Institution 

Your organization will provide:

  • Annual membership fee (starting July 1 each year)– $10,000
  • 10% FTE (200 hours) spread across 2+ data curators 
  • A representative to participate in leadership activities (5% FTE)
  • An advisory committee member (optional – 1% FTE)

The DCN will provide Sustainer Institutions:

  • Access to the Network’s pool of curator expertise, up to 200 hours per year
  • Registration and travel support for up to two (2) participants to attend the annual DCN Community All Hands Meeting
  • Access to DCN community, via listserv and expertise of curators
  • Access to DCN curator training and ongoing support through weekly stand up meetings
  • Opportunities for staff to participate in special interest groups and other
  • professional development activities including conference presentations, grant funded research, and teaching opportunities.
  • Participation in DCN Governance:
    • one (1) vote in DCN governance (via a designated DCN Representative)
    • (optional) one (1) AUL or Executive Director serving on DCN Advisory Board

Institutions wishing to join the DCN at the Sustainer Level should complete an Expression of Interest before April 30.

DCN “Ambassador

Your organization will provide:

  • One-time workshop fee (rates apply to US institutions, others please contact us)
    • Opt 1: $2,500 + your institution provides travel and lodging for three (3) instructors, paid direct to individuals. 
    • Opt 2: $5,500 flat domestic rate. DCN handles all travel arrangements and costs for three (3) instructors. 
  • Meeting space, presentation technology, and internet access for an interactive, 1.5 day workshop for up to 30 people.
  • As host, your organization can choose how to advertise and recruit participants. As an ambassador, your institution will extend specialized data curation education to local staff and/or regional participants. 

The DCN will provide:

  • A 1.5 day specialized data curation workshop taught by 3 instructors
  • Breakfast and lunch for attendees on both days
  • Attendees will have continued access to the DCN community, via a shared listserv and mentored collaboration projects (Data Curation Primers)
