As part of our annual All Hands meeting, the Data Curation Network is offering an in-person data curation workshop experience June 26-27, 2023, at Princeton University.
This free two-day training session expands on the CURATE(D) workflow as a training foundation to bring together library data specialists, discipline and functional experts in a peer-to-peer learning environment. You can view our workshop curriculum for an overview of our workshop agenda. Participants will be invited to create or update a data curation primer individually or as part of a group.
We especially invite applications from individuals at minority serving institutions, including Historically Black Colleges and Universities and Hispanic Serving Institutions, and members of historically oppressed communities. Applications are open to international participation.

The workshop is capped at 30 participants. Applications will be reviewed using this publicly available rubric.
Travel Logistics
The workshop will begin at 9am Eastern June 26 and end by 2:30pm Eastern on June 27.
Attendees are responsible for their own travel arrangements. The DCN provides a limited number of scholarships to early career professionals, students, and individuals from historically marginalized communities. There are additional external funding opportunities available, including through the Digital Preservation Outreach and Education Network.
The event will be held on Princeton University’s Campus. We recommend staying at the Nassau Inn.
Instructors
Sherry Lake (She/her) is the Scholarly Repository Librarian at the University of Virginia Library where she manages UVa’s institutional repositories hosting open scholarship, including Electronic Theses & Dissertations and Data. Sherry has been at the UVa Library since 2000 in various roles, including UVa’s first Data Management Consultant, supporting the research lifecycle data management, metadata production, data organization and preservation. Sherry was involved in the creation of the online data management tool, DMPTool. Sherry is also a certified Carpentry instructor (Software, Data, Library). Sherry holds a MS in Information Sciences from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville and a BS in Computer Science from the School of Engineering and Applied Science at the University of Virginia.
Wanda Marsolek (they/them) serves as the liaison to the departments of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering, and Technology Leadership Institute. A member of Minnesota’s Research Data Services Team, they are also a curator for the Data Repository for the University of Minnesota (DRUM). Wanda has been an instructor for the CURATE(D) workshop several times, and brings a human-centric approach to ethical, equitable, and accessible curation.
Mikala Narlock (she/her) is the Director of the Data Curation Network, based at the University of Minnesota. In this role, Mikala ensures the DCN develops in a sustainable fashion while advancing strategic goals. This includes support and development for the data curators, fostering community with members and potential partners, advocating for the data curation profession, and upholding DCN’s reputation as a trusted, transparent, and empowering partner. In her previous position as the Digital Collections Strategy Librarian at the University of Notre Dame, she oversaw development of two flagship library services and collaborated with researchers to deposit their data and publications in the institutional repository. She earned her MLS from Indiana University in 2018.
